Appointment prep
Your first appointment
You have probably been noticing this for a while before booking. The work of a first appointment is getting what you have been carrying into the first few minutes, in an order your doctor can act on.
Nothing to fill in, nothing saved, nothing sent anywhere.
Start by telling them
This doctor is starting from nothing, so be specific with dates. “Every month since March” gives them more to work with than “my periods are irregular”.
- When it started: roughly is fine
- What's been going on: what's changed recently
- What you've already tried: for how long, and what happened
- Anything in the family: hormonal, thyroid, or diabetes, if it hasn't come up already
Then ask
Ask these once your doctor has responded, since most of them build on what they've just said. You won't get through all of these. Pick the two that matter most, and write the answers down as they come.
Once you've told them
Tests are being ordered
Before you leave
These are a reminder for you. Ask them in whatever order the conversation takes.
Anayah does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. This suggests what to say and what to ask. It does not interpret your symptoms or results, and nothing here replaces a consultation with a qualified doctor. If you are not sure which doctor to see, our guide on which doctor to see for hormonal symptoms may help.
